Como-Pickton Parents - We have a fire alarm scheduled this morning. In today's times, we wanted to make you aware that there is nothing to worry about. This morning is only a drill.

It is our understanding that someone screenshot a state released list of academically targeted poor performing schools and misinterpreted the list to be a list of schools in danger. If we hear differently, we will keep you informed. The rumor mill is a tough thing to defend against. As always, we thank you for your constant support of our schools. Como and Pickton Communities – A hoax threat has been circulating throughout the state and has targeted several schools. Ours is not one of them. The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department provided deputies at all of the Hopkins County Schools to set folks’ minds at ease today and tomorrow and to provide an extra layer of security. As always, we strive to keep parents informed in the face of any danger or threat that we know of. This is not one of those times as there is no credible threat, but we felt that putting this statement out would ease some of our community members who are hearing about these false threats.

Back to School Registration is Open! It's time to register your child for the 2024/2025 school year. All students who were enrolled at CP for the 2023/2024 school year have to be registered in Parent Portal every year and show proof of residency. Proof of residency is an electric bill, water bill, gas bill, rental or purchase agreement. Proof of residence can be emailed, faxed or brought to the campus secretary. Parent Portal is also opened for new student enrollment. We need a birth certificate, social security card, shot records and proof of residence for new students. These items can also be emailed, faxed or brought to the office. Eagle Pride Alert! Upcoming sophomore, Kyler Gillis, was honored to be nominated as a delegate for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders which took place outside of Boston, MA! He spent three days making connections with like-minded youth who hope to make a difference in the medical field. The Congress consisted of listening to Nobel Prize-winning speakers, deans from some of the top medical schools in the country, and even a 15 year old student who is making groundbreaking discoveries with his research on skin cancer. Kyler said his favorite part of the Congress was watching a live rotator cuff surgery. The last night of the Congress, the delegates were sworn into the Society of Torch and Laurel, an honor society for high school students, and said the Hippocratic Oath led by Dean Mitchell of Georgetown University’s Medical School. Due to his attendance and participation at the Congress and his GPA, Kyler will be receiving the Award of Academic Excellence. He hopes to pursue a future in the medical field, and he can’t wait to attend next year’s Congress. If you're as proud of him as we are, post your congratulatory comments below! #EaglePride247

Eagle Pride Alert! The Como-Pickton CISD Board of Trustees has been named the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) School Board of the Year for Region 8. TASA created the school board awards program in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the school children of Texas. This year, the Como-Pickton CISD’s School Board has exemplified these traits and worked hard to ensure that the education of its community’s children remained its top priority even as the district overcame obstacles of rebuilding their school after a devastating tornado. Como-Pickton Board President, DJ Carr, noted that he was humbled by the honor. He praised the school district’s teachers, staff, and administrators for always keeping the children as their top priority. He voiced pride in working with such dedicated and passionate board members, and he thanked them for the countless hours of hard work they put into the district to make it the best for the Como and Pickton communities. This isn’t the first time the Como-Pickton School Board has been honored. In 2021, they were named School Board of the Year for the State of Texas by the Texas Rural Educators Association. Their hard work over the last few years has established Como-Pickton CISD as one of the finest schools in the area and one in which their two communities can be proud.
