Eagle Nation! Please enjoy the following video that our video construction class put together for tonight's playoff game. This is our school's seventh playoff appearance in school history, the second under Coach Green. In 2000, the Eagles took on Troup and lost 14-15, In 2001, the Eagles took on Kerens and lost 28-37. In 2002, the Eagles took on Whitewright and lost 12-13. In 2004, The Eagles lost to Paul Pewitt, 14-49. In 2018, we lost to Collinsville 8-42, and in 2019, we lost to Valley View 16-48. Eagle Community - In speaking with our local health authorities, and out of an abundance of caution, we are going to cancel our Fall Festival for this current year. Our goal this year is to keep our school open as long as possible. That goal has been threatened a few times already this year with the presence of COVID within our school itself. We want to minimize that threat as much as possible. Therefore, after speaking with our health authorities, we will plan on returning to having a Fall Festival in 2021. We were holding off doing this as long as possible hoping that we would not have to. We are thankful for your constant support. Our school year is one sixth of the way over, and we couldn’t have gotten through it without your ongoing support! From the bottom of our hearts! Thank you!

Eagle Volleyball Fans - Union Hill has cancelled their volleyball game against us for this Saturday as a result of COVID issues that they are dealing with in their own volleyball program. Let's keep Union Hill, as well as all of the other schools, in our prayers as we each struggle through this difficult situation. Our Lady Eagles are scheduled to play again this coming Tuesday.
Como-Pickton Community - In keeping with our commitment of transparency for all stakeholders, I wanted to inform you that as of today, we have 7 total positive COVID cases out of 693 students. We believe that we have been able to effectively isolate and quarantine those in close contact who have not worn masks. Some of those positive cases are recovering and some will be returning to school as early as Monday morning. As I am sure that you are aware, those numbers will fluctuate every day. We will always monitor them, and should we feel that we are no longer able to isolate effectively, then we will transition to online school for a week or two to get the numbers back down and then transition back to face to face instruction. We are not close to that point yet, but we will keep monitoring. Thank you again for your constant support and prayers for our school. We will keep you informed, even if that means several posts a week on this issue..... Sincerely, Dr. Greg Bower

Eagle Students, Parents, and Fans! We are excited to be able to offer sports this year even with this pandemic, but selling tickets for various events has resulted in some very confusing information for each game. We wanted to post this information regarding football tickets so that you have a little better understanding of what you need to do each week in order to get into the games. Also, because each school has to limit their fan capacity to 50%, we are offering tickets to our participating athletes, band students, and cheerleading parents first before opening it up to the general public. This will generally affect away games as most schools' visitor sections are much smaller than their home sections. We hope this helps. Feel free to call our administrative office if you have any questions. Just click on the following link for specific information regarding tickets for each game. https://www.cpcisd.net/o/cp-cisd/page/varsity-football-ticket-information

Due to COVID-19 and the possible need for school closure, the CPCISD school board has revised the 2020-2021 school calendar and extended the school day by 15 minutes (8:00 am - 3:35 pm). These changes will provide 18 days of flexibility should a complete school closure be required. Special thanks to the parents, students, staff, and community members who responded to our calendar survey. 76% of you responded positively to the proposed changes. There were certainly some difficult decisions to be made and your feedback helped us consider every option. You may print the calendar from our website: www.cpcisd.net

We are posting this in hopes to obtain feedback from our beloved community before moving forward with a possible alteration of our school calendar for next year. Our state’s commissioner of education has indicated that regardless of what happens with the COVID-19 Virus for next year, our students will be required to make up any days missed if they fall short of the minimum time requirements. Most schools build in a small cushion every year just in case they have to close for the flu or for bad weather. Our school is no different; we always build in a little extra time just for such events. This year, though, we have considered starting our school a week earlier and adding fifteen minutes to the day which is different than what we discussed when we approved the school calendar in March. This accomplishes two things for us this year: 1. It gets our kiddos back into school a little sooner as we can only imagine they are going stir crazy for being out for so long. 2. It allows us to build-up a total of 18 extra days of time in case we have to close school for an outbreak of the flu or COVID virus within our community. Last year, we had to close school for several days for the regular flu, and we anticipate parents being even more cautious about their children this year (and rightfully so). We will call these extra built in days, Contingency Days, on the calendar. If we have to take time out from school, we will go to school on these days. If we don’t have to close school for a length of time, our kiddos will have five extra days off during the school year for small breaks. We believe that not adding this extra time may result in us having to add those extra days to the end of the school year next year which will more than likely have our students with an altered graduation day and a school year going on into June. We would like to take these proactive steps to avoid this, but we wanted your input before we moved forward. Please click the survey link below to provide feedback: https://forms.gle/jXn55Rp7c8wBmP386
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Take Care of Texas program announced winners of its sixth-annual K-5 art contest. Students were asked to submit artwork demonstrating how they help keep the air and water clean, conserve water and energy, and reduce waste. Staff at each TCEQ regional office selected winners from each of the regions’ qualifying entries. We are proud to share that CP 5th grader, Crystal Presiado, was awarded the Region 5 title, and will receive a tablet computer! Winning art pieces will be showcased on the Take Care of Texas and TCEQ websites, newsletters and social media. Congratulations, Crystal! #EaglePride247
Eagle Athletes! Today was supposed to be our athletic banquet where we recognized our student athletes and honored those who earned awards. Since we are not able to hold an athletic banquet, we hope to honor those who earned it through our social media. We know that our Spring sports were cut short, but we wanted to recognize those who stood out during the short time that we had those sports. Athletes - we will mail your awards to you in the next couple of days. Eagle Nation - Please post your congratulatory comments below! #EaglePride247
Dear Seniors and Parents - Late yesterday afternoon, the Governor provided school districts in rural communities with guidance on how to legally conduct live graduation ceremonies during the current COVID-19 restrictions. As a result, Como-Pickton has chosen to hold a live graduation ceremony at its regularly scheduled time and date of May 22nd at 7:30 pm. The graduation ceremony will be rather strict in nature based on the Governor's guidelines. Each graduating senior will only be allowed to have five guests. Those guests will be screened prior to entering the graduation area, and they will be seated in an area of the stands that allows for the six feet social distancing guidelines between their family and others. Furthermore, guests will not be allowed to congregate on the field after the ceremony. More detailed information will be provided in the next several days, but we wanted to get this much information out to you as soon as possible so that you may begin planning for your guests. Furthermore, we will continue with our video graduation project for our seniors. Seniors, please make sure that you show up on the date and time that Mr. Baird provided you for your filming requirements. We will push that video out to our community the day after our graduation for all of those who were not able to attend our live ceremony. Also, we have an awesome tradition with our seniors to be able to deliver roses during a portion of the graduation. We will not be able to do that this year, but we do not want the tradition to stop so we encourage all of our seniors to do a virtual rose ceremony on Facebook or Instagram that day prior graduation beginning. Please tag the person you are dedicating your rose to and also add the hashtag - #EaglePride247Rose so that everyone may follow your dedication. Again, we will provide more information in the following days, but we wanted to get this bit of good news out to you as soon as possible. Take care Seniors. It will be good to see you all again! We miss you!
Attention Como-Pickton Graduating Seniors! Our goal is to still hold a live graduation ceremony for you on May 22nd at 7:30 pm. There is a very good probability that we will not be able to do this, though. Because of this probability, we have hired Chad’s Media to create a video ceremony that we can share with the community on May 22nd instead. Hopefully, we will be able to hold the graduation ceremony and provide you with the video. But, because we are unable to put the video ceremony together at the last minute, we have to begin our planning phase for that project. We will film our video ceremony on the stage of the secondary cafeteria. Please note the following directions for our video ceremony creation. 1. We have each of you scheduled to attend one filming session. We have scheduled you ten minutes in order for Chad’s Media to film your part. The two days that we are planning to film are May 9th and May 15th. We will post the schedule later this week that lets you know which day and time you are to be here. 2. Come ready. Time slots will be posted later this week. When it is your turn, though, you will only have approximately ten minutes to leave your car, film, take pictures, and return to your car….. So, you have to be ready to go when you get here. 3. Park your car in the Junior High parking area. 4. Stay in your car until you are notified that it is your turn. We will have a staff member come out to let you know that it is your turn. 5. Arrive about thirty minutes early in case we are running ahead of schedule. (We have about fifty students and their families to film, so we have to be ready and stay on schedule as much as possible.) 6. When the staff member tells you that it is your turn, please enter the secondary cafeteria by the side doors. 7. You are welcome to bring your immediate family with you, but please do not bring more than 10 family members. (They must enter together with you when you enter and return to their cars with you when you return to yours.) 8. When you exit, you will exit out of the other side of the cafeteria and through the elementary exit. (The next scheduled group will not be able to enter until you are back in your vehicles.) 9. We will provide you with a copy of the video when it is completed as well as an 8.5 x 10 photo. Como-Pickton will be paying for this, so there is no need to make any purchase. 10. Each family will have up to 10 minutes of stage time for family pictures and celebrations. Students with speaking parts will be allotted additional time for obvious reasons. 11. Seniors, if you cannot make your scheduled time slot, please notify Mr. Baird through email as soon as possible. BairdK@cpcisd.net (I know this is obvious, but I wanted to make sure everyone understands. If you are unable to be present to film your part of the video, you will not be in the video.) 12. We will post your time slots in the next couple of days, so stay tuned. If we are unable to hold a live graduation ceremony, we will reschedule as much as possible. Our latest date for rescheduling will be September 19th, the Saturday after our Homecoming game. It has been almost one and a half months since we’ve seen you! We look forward to seeing you again on one of those two days!
My Eagle Nation Family: It is with heavy heart that I notify you that Governor Abbott has ordered our schools closed for the remainder of the year. We knew that this might be a possibility, but it is still difficult for us to realize such an awful time in our state and nation. I know that many of you have questions regarding graduation and student scholarships / awards. I do not have any answers for you at this time, but I can tell you that we WILL have some type of senior recognition before the end of the school year. We WILL still announce scholarship winner recipients before the end of the school year. We WILL still announce student award recipients before the end of the school year. It may be an online activity or something that won't violate our social distancing guidelines, but we WILL do something. Your child's teachers will still continue their efforts in reaching out to your child to whatever extent is comfortable for you and your family. If they are contacting you too much, please just tell them. If they haven't contacted you enough, please let them know that too. As I mentioned before, our goal is to continue instruction as much as possible, but we do not want to make a stressful situation even worse. If all you do is tell your children that you love them and that education is important, you have done enough to satisfy me. I also assured you that we would not punish your child regarding grades during this unstable time as well. Whatever your child's school average was before we closed school, that will be their average for the remainder of the school year. We understand that being at home instead of at school is less than ideal for your child's educational growth. We will work all the harder next year to recover whatever areas they have fallen behind in. It isn't their fault, and we know it. Every child in the state of Texas is in the same situation. We will get through this together. We will also continue to feed our students who are in need during the rest of our school year. Last week, our staff and cafeteria workers delivered almost 2,000 meals to the students in our community. That's a lot of work, but we do it because we care. As always, I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. My email address is email@example.com. We miss our students, and we love them. We hope everyone stays healthy during this crazy time. Your Proud Superintendent - Dr. Greg Bower
The 2020-2021 School Calendar has been approved by the CPCISD school board. Visit our website at www.cpcisd.net to print a copy.
Parents: We have turned off our Parent Portal Access while our school is closed. We have stressed that you should not worry about your child's grades dropping during this time. We will not allow that to happen. Trying to maintain equitable grading in an un-equitable environment is impossible. Therefore, we wanted to remove all stress from parents as well as teachers. If you have any questions about your child's work, or progress, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or principal through email. Work through your child's school assignments in whatever manner is most comfortable for you and your family. Your child's grade will reflect whatever your child's average was prior to our school closing up to the point that we return. As always, stay healthy and safe during this troubling time. Don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions or concerns. Very Truly Yours - Dr. Greg Bower - Superintendent - firstname.lastname@example.org
Parents: Many of you are scheduled to pickup your child’s work at school tomorrow. With the new Stay at Home order, we realize that you may have some questions for us. Judge Newsom has stated that picking up your child’s work from school is acceptable as long as you stay in your vehicles to do so. Also, we are planning on continuation of our student meal deliveries to those who are in need. They will continue as they have been. Tomorrow, we will also deliver instructional material to those who can’t make it to school. In our effort to do our part and further reduce our interactions, though, next Thursday will be our last work delivery. We will make sure that we send material home for the remainder of the year. In the event that we are able to come back before then, our teachers will review and reteach as much information as possible. Finally, If you are able to scan your child’s finished work back to your teacher, try to do so. If not, just have your child keep it until he or she sees their teacher again. We thank you for all that you do for our school, and we want you to know we are here for you in this difficult time. Students: We miss you, and we love you. See you soon!
Parents: As we move toward more of our staff working from home and social distancing ourselves, it may be easier contacting each campus through email rather than by phone. To reach each campus, please use the following email addresses: Elementary - Monica Tapley at TapleyM@cpcisd.net Junior High - Julie Baxter at BaxterJ@cpcisd.net High School - Alice Bower at BowerA@cpcisd.net Spanish Speakers - Patty Pulgarin at PulgarinP@cpcisd.net
