Scott E. Thompson
Director of Bands
Scott E. Thompson is in his second year as the head director of the Como-Pickton War-Eagle Band program. He taught for two years as the sole director for Jena High and Jena Junior High in Jena, Louisiana grades 6-12. Before teaching at Jena, Mr. Thompson student taught at Ruston Junior High in Ruston, Louisiana under the head junior high director Gary Teague.
Mr. Thompson received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Music Education from Louisiana Tech University in May, 2015. He studied percussion under Dr. Greg Lyons and participated in the top Symphonic Wind Ensemble under Director of Bands, Jim Robken. While at Louisiana Tech, Mr. Thompson was a member of the marching Band of Pride, Hoop Troop basketball band, jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, and concert choir. Mr. Thompson was also participated in the Christian Student Center, intramural sports, and Phi Buda Ruda Percussion Service Fraternity.
In Scott’s spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and their baby girl, worshiping and fellowshiping with their home church of Christ in Lindale, hunting, fishing, camping, and playing both board games and video games.
Mr. Thompson’s professional memberships include the Texas Music Educator Association (TMEA), Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA), National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB), and Percussive Arts Society.
Assistant Director of Bands/Head Junior High Director
Ivan Calzada is in his first year as the Assistant Director/Head Junior High director of the Como-Pickton War-Eagle Band. This is his second year of teaching. His first year of teaching was in Copperas Cove, TX at Clements/Parsons Elementary. Mr. Calzada has student taught at Liberty High School under the direction of Jamie Weaver in Frisco ISD and Mooneyham Elementary with Shannon Strader in Frisco ISD as well.
Mr. Calzada recieved his Bachelor of Science in Music from Texas A&M Commerce in December 2015. He studied Trumpet under Dr. Daniel Kelly and participated in the Symphonic and Concert Band under the direction of Allan Goodwin. During his time at TAMUC, Mr. Calzada was a member of the Pride Marching Band where they traveled and performed at exhibitions such as UIL Area C and State for 5A. He was also a member of the Blue Cat Jazz Ensemble, Pride Basketball Band, Trumpet Studio, Tuba/Euphonium Studio, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
In his spare time, he enjoys time with his family and friends, watching anything on Netflix, playing video games, and relaxing.
Mr.Calzada’s professional memberships include the Texas Music Educator Association(TMEA), National Association for Music Educators(NAfME), International Trumpet Guild(ITG), Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB), and Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity(KKΨ).
